ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, WESTON ART GALLERY

Located within the Aronoff Center for the Arts, the Weston Art Gallery is acclaimed for exhibitions that combine artists and ideas from the national and global contemporary art ecology with the work and ideas of artists living and working in the region. The Weston Art Gallery Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for supporting the Weston Art Gallery’s education programs, public events, and public-facing communications in collaboration with the Gallery Director, gallery staff, Aronoff Center Operations teams, and the Development team.

Education Programs

  • Develop and implement education programs that align with the Weston Art Gallery’s mission and goals.
  • Design, coordinate, and promote Weston’s Families Create workshops, including identifying consistent instructors and assistant instructors.
  • Strengthen the public presence and understanding of Families Create workshops and other Weston education programs through clear messaging and promotion across print, social media, and other appropriate channels.
  • Shape the direction of the Docentitos summer education program, including year-round coordination that culminates in summer camp and summer tours.
  • Identify consistent instructors and assistant instructors for the Docentitos program and promote the program through social media and print media.
  • Work closely with Aronoff Center Operations to coordinate logistics for all education events.

Event Coordination

  • Coordinate opening receptions, artist talks, and other public events.
  • Develop sponsorship opportunities related to public events.
  • Collaborate with partner venues and organizations, including the CAC, the Mercantile Library, and others as appropriate.

Public Outreach and Communications

  • Website content and updates.
  • Social media, print media, and advertising.
  • Donor and supporter relations, cultivation, and development support.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a clear, working knowledge of contemporary visual art at the regional, national, and global levels. The candidate should also bring experience in contemporary visual arts education, strong design sensibility, and excellent editing skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe design programs. Master’s degree in visual arts, museum studies, or a related field, such as an MA or MFA; and a minimum of ten years’ experience in visual arts coordination; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities
