African American artists, athletes, and agents of change have been integral to Cincinnati Music Hall's history for nearly 150 years. The Springer Auditorium hosted politicians and speakers, such as John Mercer Langston, legendary operatic diva Madame Sissieretta Jones, and the "Queen of the Blues," Mamie Smith.
The South Hall ballroom was an essential venue for music legends, including Edward "Duke" Ellington, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and Sarah Vaughan. The North Hall, once the city's sports arena, hosted games of the Black Fives basketball league and boxing matches with "Cincinnati Cobra," Ezzard Charles.
Discover these captivating stories and legacies that continue to inspire us as you take a 90-minute tour of Music Hall, Under One Roof.
