Martha’s Will, a historical fiction play by Susan and Doug Decatur
In September 1919, wealthy Cincinnatian Martha dies. Her lawyer gathers potential heirs to participate in parlor games reminiscent of the early 20th century. The historical events of the time add layers of intrigue that foreshadow how Martha’s “will” is imposed, showing that things aren’t always as they seem to be.
Playwright Bios:
Susan and Doug Decatur became a writing team after their marriage in 2018. They’ve co-written two full-length plays, including Unfinished Business, an Austin Film Festival selection and Screencraft finalist. They also collaborated on Lovestruck, a compilation of eight 10-minute plays inspired by their own love story. Both plays were performed at the Aronoff.
The Decaturs are also National Senior Games athletes. Doug won a Gold medal in Basketball and Susan won a Silver Medal in the 50-meter Track and Field event. They also enjoy playing tennis, ballroom dancing, hiking, and eating dark chocolate.
