Event Details
Celebrate the immense diversity of the LGBTQ+ community at historic Music Hall with Artists Rendering: Palette of Pride. This immersive experience blends a musical performance—featuring an evocative steel pan concerto—with a curated pop-up art exhibition and a live painting experience. In collaboration with local queer artists, the Queen City Freedom Band explores the visual arts through musical representations of color, shading, and sculpture. By treating sound as a canvas and melody as a brushstroke, this multisensory event invites you on a memorable journey where vibrant orchestral textures and live artistry unite to celebrate the brilliant spectrum of queer identity.

Guest Conductor Robert Sheldon
Robert Sheldon will be joining the Queen City Freedom Band as the guest conductor of two of his own pieces—Chiaroscuro and One Thousand Cranes. Sheldon's compositions embody a level of expression that resonates with ensembles and audiences alike, and he produces numerous publications for concert band each year. With over four million copies of his compositions and books sold, he is one of the most performed composers of wind band music today.

Steel Pan Soloist Jeff Martin
Jeff Martin is an active music educator, percussionist, and non-profit leader. Jeff is one of the only full-time steel band educators in the country, and has been the Director of Steel Bands at Clark Montessori High School (a Cincinnati Public School) since 2013, where he teaches 125 musicians in grades 7-12, focusing on field studies and community service-oriented performances. He began playing steel pan at Elder High School and continued through college as he was earning his B.M. in Music Education from Ohio Northern University with a M.M. in Music Education from Miami University to follow. Currently, Jeff keeps a busy schedule as board president and a percussionist for the Queen City Freedom Band (Cincinnati’s LGTBQ+ Concert Band, www.qcfb.org), and as a member of the Cincy Steel Ensemble.
