When it comes to increasing loyalty, are arts administrators continuing to try to fix a broken system rather than changing that system entirely to meet our new reality? Four years ago, Denver's Curious Theatre Company began an incubation period for a new form of arts administration wholly developed in-house (THE LOYALTY TARGET), devised to increase patron loyalty, patron diversity, and disrupt business as usual. This methodology creates a unified administrative team that values patron loyalty above all and measures loyalty in both monetary and non-monetary ways. Curious saw enormous changes in just two years of this trial, including tripling the percentage of audience members who identify as people of color and more than doubling annual appeal income, while also rapidly growing subscription revenue. It was this loyalty and financial support that buoyed Curious through the initial theatre closures due to Covid-19. In this session, Katie Maltais, Curious’ Managing Director, will discuss THE LOYALTY TARGET and how these concepts can be applied to organizations of all budget sizes.
