LEAD CUSTODIAN
The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is seeking a full-time, 2nd shift Lead Custodian at our downtown Aronoff Center for the Arts location. As a part of the Custodial Department, this individual will play a vital role in keeping the Aronoff Center safe, clean, and welcoming.
The Lead Custodian supports the Custodial Services Manager by coordinating staff scheduling and overseeing the completion of daily custodial assignments. This role serves as a working leader, ensuring that custodial tasks are conducted efficiently, that facility standards are maintained, and that team members are supported and guided throughout their shifts. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to interact with patrons, guests, and staff while remaining professional, polite, and courteous when custodial services are needed.
Responsibilities
General responsibilities include, but are not limited to: work closely with the Custodial Services Manager to coordinate staff schedules and ensure adequate coverage across all shifts; align work schedule with the Custodial Services Manager to ensure that one of them is present on-site during critical operations or events; stay informed of daily building activities to effectively support and coordinate the custodial team’s work efforts; provide hands-on custodial services and lead by example in maintaining cleanliness and facility standards; ensure custodial tasks are completed on time, efficiently, and to the highest standard of quality; check in with event managers after setups are completed to confirm satisfaction and make adjustments as needed; support the growth and development of custodial staff by providing training, coaching, and day-to-day guidance; respond promptly to issues or concerns that arise during shifts, demonstrating effective problem-solving in real time; collaborate with the Custodial Services Manager to identify opportunities for improvement within the custodial department; communicate, coordinate, and collaborate respectfully with custodial staff and other departments to ensure smooth operations; maintain a positive and professional demeanor when interacting with staff, visitors, and guests in a variety of situations; assist in the onboarding process by orienting new custodial employees to departmental procedures, staff, and assigned areas.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of two years’ experience working in all custodial areas; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:
• Knowledge of custodial related procedures.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions regarding use of equipment and hazardous materials.
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to review venue schedules, event plans, set-ups, and task lists to prioritize duties appropriately and ensure fair distribution of work among team members.
• Ability to provide clear direction and oversight to custodial team members during each shift, helping guide work and maintain standards of excellence.
• Must be capable of performing duties with minimal supervision.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes according to the immediate needs of the department.
WORKING SCHEDULE: Must be able to work a full-time schedule that primarily consists of second shift hours ranging from 12pm-12am. Must be able to consistently and dependably commute to the Aronoff Center and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts to ensure reliable attendance and operational support.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
