Through her photography, Rachael Banks (Newport, KY) explores intergenerational trauma within her family and how instances of loss, addiction, and criminal behavior repeat throughout their history. Presented in conjunction with the FotoFocus Biennial, The Trail of the Dead is a visual anthology of life and death within the central region of Kentucky. The storylines of the artist’s family and a herd of whitetail deer intertwine with shared experiences of trauma and the landscape they understand as their home.
