Event Details
Celebrate the extraordinary voices of women in music, from pioneers of the 19th-century to trailblazers of today. Fanny Mendelssohn’s Overture in C opens the program with elegance and poise, followed by Emilie Mayer’s Faust Overture, whose dramatic flair showcases her command of orchestral color. Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto, performed by the brilliant Alexandra Dariescu in her CSO debut, blends virtuosic brilliance with lyrical depth. For much of the 19th century, Clara’s musical presence inspired some of the most important works by composers Johannes Brahms and her husband, Robert Schumann. The program culminates with music of today: Errollyn Wallen’s Concerto for Orchestra, co-commissioned by the CSO. Selected by King Charles III as Master of the King’s Music, Wallen brings a distinctive, vibrant voice to the stage, blending contemporary symphonic innovation with folk-inspired lyricism.
