Event Details
Conductor Phillipe Jordan, in his highly-anticipated CSO debut, leads a Strauss spectacular for the senses. Also sprach Zarathustra opens with its world-famous sunrise, sending a radiant surge of sound through Music Hall. Death and Transfiguration, written when the composer was merely 23 years old, captures the essence of life and its beauty. At the end of this life, Strauss said, “Death is as I composed it” referencing the musical motives used in this beautiful tone poem. At the heart of the evening, the Oboe Concerto, featuring CSO Principal Oboe Dwight Parry, offers pure, elegant, Mozart-like lyricism.
