DESCRIPTION:Join us for a roundatable discussion at the Contemporary Arts Center August 28th at 6PM with a reception following at the gallery from 7-9PM.What binds these four artists is not only a close friendship but a reading of the world that involves taking what we already know and making it present in front of us. Zachary Armstrong working through the dense materiality of encaustic paint pulls from his life and immediate world to transfix time. Gina Beavers plucks our digital lives out from behind the screen, making dimensional our algorithms in painted relief. Raul de Nieves is a multimedia artist, performer, and musician who finds beauty in the quotidian. Through layers of ornament and materiality, de Nieves elevates and transforms. Trey Abdella makes thin the veil between painting, sculpture and mixed media. His hyperrealistic works draw on the American Dream extracting its many facets and reifying its horrors and malaise.
