Urban Appalachian Showcase

Presented by the Urban Appalachian Community Coalition & Cincinnati Arts Association

A hearty Aronoff welcome to Cincinnati’s Appalachians and their guests at the Appalachian Studies Conference. In their honor we present an exciting showcase of our Appalachian life, the best of our writers, singers, musicians, and spoken word artists. Bluegrass legend, writer, and radio personality Katie Laur is on hand -- a perceptive voice about Appalachian life in Cincinnati. Also we have the resilient old-time ensemble, the Rabbit Hash String Band, all steadfast advocates for Appalachian music. You’ll hear writings from Southern Appalachian Writers Cooperative, read by Richard Hague and by Cincinnati’s first Poet Laureate Pauletta Hansel. Basketball legend and songwriter Jean Dowell brings her songs of the homeplace, performed with Mike Oberst of the Tillers. Desirae Hosley of Wordplay presents young spoken word artists from our community. The multigenerational Tellico Family Band brings songs old and new that sustain them. And all is tied together by our esteemed emcee, Omope Carter Daboiku.

Presented by Cincinnati’s Urban Appalachian Community Coalition with sponsorship by the Cincinnati Arts Association and ArtsWave.
