Mutual Dance Theatre: Up-Close
PLEASE NOTE: THIS PERFORMANCE IS NOT AT THE ARONOFF CENTER. IT TAKES PLACE AT MUTUAL ARTS CENTER IN HARTWELL: 8222 MONON AVE, 45216.
Tiny audiences, big dance: Join us again for the fourth installment of the renamed series Up-Close, where small groups of audiences sit in-the-round to witness dance up-close, featuring two world premieres by Countess V. Winfrey (of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company) and Stevie Lamblin (formerly of DCDC and Mutual Dance Theatre). “Somewhere, They Freed Themselves” by Countess Winfrey is a visual exploration of the ways we search for freedom. Visual projections and a large table create a landscape and provide hope that each viewer can also find their own spaces of liberation. Simply put, “Be’s," by Stevie Lamblin, is about being… and bees! In a society that pushes women to overwork, “Be’s” is a commentary on individuation and the struggles we face to attain it in today’s culture.

Dance Theatre Like We've Never Presented Before
"...an astonishing dance-theater work that gracefully brought together both spectacle and intimate gesture." — World Dance Reviews
Since their discovery in 2009 by American Dance Festival Director Charles Reinhart, Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre has quickly become a beloved fixture in the contemporary arts scene in Miami. With whirlwind success including sold-out performances, the company is becoming a force to be reckoned with. RHDT is known for its diverse ensemble that consists of some of Miami’s most brilliant performers and creators ranging in genre from theater, performance art, opera, drag, and contemporary ballet. Devotion is the third and final work in a trilogy of dances that use religious iconography as a way to explore themes of love. It is specifically interested in our now-intimate relationship to technology.
