Storytelling on Demand—Folktales & Tales about Folks

Omope Carter Daboiku shares the richness of America’s multicultural folklore and oral tradition in her imaginative storytelling sessions. For younger audiences, Daboiku tells stories from the South and Appalachia. For older audiences, she recreates the lives of historical people, such as S.E. Dew, Bessie Coleman, and Zora Neale Hurston.

Recommended Ages: Grades K-12
Maximum Audience: 100 (no sound system); 300 (if lavalier mic is provided)
Length: 60-90 minutes
Cost: $275 first session/$150 each additional
Limit No. Sessions: 4


Technical Needs

  • Artist Arrival: 30 minutes prior to presentation.
  • Organization representative should meet the artist and show her to the presentation area.
  • There is a Question and Answer session following the presentation. It lasts approximately 15 minutes, included in running time.
  • Equipment needed by artist: if audience is over 100, a lavalier mike.
  • Classroom or large gathering space is suitable for this presentation. Minimum amount of space needed for presentation: 4’ x 4’
  • Please have drinking water provided for the artist.
