Late Nite Catechism is an uproariously funny play that takes the audience back to their youth, as the irrepressible "Sister" teaches class to a roomful of "students" (the audience). Throughout the course of the class the benevolent instructor rewards the "students" for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and other nifty prizes. Naughty students may well find themselves on stage sitting in a corner reflecting their actions. However, even the most reluctant "students" will be clamoring to get into this Sister's "class."

CINCINNATI, OH – Catechism classes are never as much fun – or as hilarious – as when they are led by Sister (actress Kimberly Richards) in the international hit comedy Late Nite Catechism, by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, which returns to the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater for a limited two-week run from October 7-19. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 22 and are available at www.CincinnatiArts.ORG , (513) 621-ARTS [2787], or the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. Group discounts are available by calling (513) 977-4157.

Late Nite Catechism is an uproarious piece of theater that takes audience members back – sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully – to the children they once were.  The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult catechism class to a roomful of “students” (the audience).  Over the course of the play, Sister goes from benevolent instructor, rewarding the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and laminated saint cards, to authoritative drill sergeant.  These abrupt mood swings are bound to strike a resonant chord with everyone who survived the ups and downs of going to school with an omniscient authoritarian at the helm.

The Catholic Register (Toronto) said, “The show appeals to Catholics and non-Catholics alike since ‘Sister’ clearly explains religious references in lighthearted ways while maintaining a serious tone that isn’t too preachy and far from being saccharine.”  The New York Times declared “Late Nite Catechism speaks to an audience much broader than the membership of any one church.”

Since opening in 1993, Late Nite Catechism, has been nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award in New York; won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Lead Performance for Maripat Donovan; has played every state in the U.S., as well as across Canada, the U.K., and Australia; and is currently playing to full “classes” across America.

KIMBERLY RICHARDS (Sister)

Kim grew up in Oakland, CA and attended Holy Names High School for the last four of her twelve beautiful years in Catholic school.  Kim has been performing for 30 something years, the first 15 as a professional dancer, illusionist, choreographer, aerialist, and comedienne.  Kim spent her formative years in Las Vegas during its heyday in the 70s and 80s, did a Far East tour for the Dept. of Defense, and hung from a rope at 60 feet without a net.  She has won two Drama-Logue awards and two Dean Goodman Choice awards for her acting and choreography. She has worked in theatre, film and television and appeared in two of San Francisco's longest-running hits: Bar None and Beyond Therapy.  In the S.F. Bay Area, she has also acted in a number of Genesius Theatre Co. productions (of which she is a founding member), including The Dead Monkey, It Had To Be You, The House Of Blue Leaves, On Tidy Endings, and The Shadow Box.  The Genesius Theatre Co. is, of course, named after Saint Genesius, the patron Saint of Actors.  Most recently, Kimberly performed in Encore Theatre’s critically-acclaimed world premiere of Dreams of the Salthorse. Magic Theatre credits consist of: The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite and The Pharmacists Daughter.  Other favorites include: Sex, Lies and Zippergate (Gross National Product), Breaking Legs, the female version of The Odd Couple (The Willows Theatre) and Four Dogs and a Bone (Actor's Theatre of SF).  As a director, she has worked with many Bay Area theatres on dozens of shows. Kim also teaches young actors at her own school “Spotlight on Kids.” You can visit them at www.spotlight-on-kids.com.
