Tiffany Mills Company: After The Feast

Presented by Contemporary Dance Theater

Join Contemporary Dance Theater as they open their 44th Season. CDT is proud to present Tiffany Mills Company of New York City performing After the Feast.

After the Feast, a new evening length dance-theater work, is driven by questions about abundance and scarcity and one senses the grit and cacophony of urban life. When are our lives exposed to the point of feeling devoured? How are our senses nourished or starved? How does our external environment reflect out internal world? Mills, with the company, develops a sensory experience that conjures a dire situation, a looming seismic shift. Composer Jonathan Melville Pratt creates an aural landscape that heightens the impact of the raw and visceral movement. Choreographer Tiffany Mills also brings together dramaturge Kay Cummings, lighting designer Chris Hudacs, costume designer Mary Kokie-McNaugher, and her company of dedicated and ferocious dancers.

Mills and the dancers place their mythical world in present-day Brooklyn where they become witnesses, observers, and strange voyeurs to each other’s distinctly human and vulnerable experiences. As a choreographer, Mills is eager to continue pushing the boundaries of dance and theater with Cummings, who is a veteran actor and director. Mills utilizes her highly physical movement vocabulary and affinity for daring partnering to propel the work into a charged emotional and physical state. With Cummings, the dancers explore images and emotions from an array of source material related to times of trauma, which they use to develop unique personas.

In closing, Mills hopes her audience can take an unexpected look at modern life and will have a reaction and kinesthetic response, as she will continually go back to her original question: What will remain after the final feast?
