The show is part of the Cincinnati Arts Association’s 2011-12 Season. Tickets are now on sale at www.CincinnatiArts.ORG , (513) 621-ARTS [2787], or the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. Group discounts are available by calling (513) 977-4157. After bringing his entire family on the road, sharing the stage with The Burns Sisters, and appearing with symphony orchestras, Arlo now gets back to his roots, performing his hits and many deep album cuts from a repertoire spanning over 40 years. Guthrie has long been a crowd favorite as he incorporates his humorous philosophical reflections with folk-rock classics and brilliantly crafted, thought-provoking new works. Son Abe Guthrie, grandson Krishna Guthrie, instrumentalist Gordon Titcomb, and long-time drummer Terry “a la Berry” Hall form the Boys’ Night Out band, offering both synergistic and familial support on this tour for a dynamic series of exceptional shows. Anyone fortunate enough to catch the Live in Sydney performances can tell you the core line-up is a tightly-knit, well-seasoned band. Since the release of the paradigmatic anti-war anthem Alice’s Restaurant (Warner Bros.,1967), Arlo’s name has long been synonymous with protest songs of the sixties; however “…somehow, in the midst of his impeccable 1960s longhair road warrior credentials, he has built a body of work unrivalled for its profound embodiment of America’s core values.” (Ross Altman; folkworks.org) With over 25 albums in his discography, Guthrie has a vast body of work from which to mine. Favorites such as City of New Orleans, Darkest Hour, Coming Into Los Angeles and Woody Guthrie’s My Peace are only a few of the gems that may make the set-list, and of course Arlo continues to offer his take on current events, with no topic out of bounds: “Rather than avoiding controversy, he looks it square in the eye, grins at it and then invites us all to sing along together, no matter our political or religious beliefs.” (Terry Roland; nodepression.com) Arlo puts on a show like no one else by embodying the spirit of the sixties while staying at the forefront of contemporary folk, all combined with his unique style, which is at once hilarious and inspiring.
